Crackerbox 16′ Classic Powerboat built with RAPTOR Brads – Update!

Gary has been building a classic American wooden powerboat first made popular by returning US American GI’s at the end of World War II. He found the design plans on the Glen-L Boat Designs website. The design is named, “Crackerbox”. Gary’s Crackerbox powerboat is coming along nicely thanks in part to the RAPTOR composite brad nails. Read how Gary uses the nails in the hull.

“As previously mentioned, I’ve used the Raptor brads to hold 48 x 6 metre strips of mahogany on my 16′ Glen-L designed gentleman’s racer, and am really pleased with the result.”

“The pictures are of the side and bow of my inverted hull. 2000 of the Raptor brads were used to secure the mahogany strips around the contours of my hull while the epoxy adhesive set. The Philippine mahogany is quite rigid in thin strips, so the Raptor brads were under extreme tension when holding it flush against the contours of my hull.

The mahogany and Raptor brads were sanded, stained, then coated in 14 layers of marine varnish. It looks like glass and the Raptor brads are virtually invisible. I’ll definitely be using them on the decorative deck once I turn over the hull.”

“The bottom of my hull is yet to be painted red (or have the 1” wide white waterline mark painted around it) so it looks unfinished and a little grotty with all the tools on it.

Regards, Gary”
