RAPTOR® Plastic Composite Staples and Nails
SAW, SAND, CUT
- Can be worked like wood: RAPTOR® fasteners can be cut, shaped and sanded with the wood without damaging bits, blades or abrasives.
- Save time/labor: RAPTOR® fasteners can be left in and do not need to be removed. They will not rust, stain, delaminate or cause problems. RAPTOR® fasteners eliminate down-time.
- Save money: RAPTOR® fasteners will save on bit, blade and abrasive damage and the down-time to replace bits, blades or abrasives from metal nail damage so manufacturing costs are reduced.
NO RUST, NO CORROSION
- Won't deteriorate wood: The thermal conductivity of metal nails causes condensation of moisture at the surface of the nail which promotes corrosion and wood deterioration. RAPTOR® fasteners are similar to wood in their thermal conductivity, so they do not cause condensation, corrosion and wood deterioration.
- Save time: RAPTOR® fasteners sand down with the wood and accept stain so there is no need to putty, saving one step in production and the appearance is better than putty.
- No electrolysis or galvanic corrosion: RAPTOR® fasteners are completely non-metal and cannot rust, oxidize, corrode or cause galvanic corrosion of other metals.
BONDS LIKE GLUE
- NATURAL BONDING: The shaft of the nail or staple fuses permanently with the material creating a powerful interfacial bond between the fastener and the material.
- STRONG HOLDING POWER: Has twice the tensile holding power compared to similar sized steel fasteners.
- HIGH QUALITY RESULTS: RAPTOR® creates a longer lasting, high quality end product.
WHY USE RAPTOR®
- Customer has sanding, sawing, planing, CNC, or cutting problems using metal fasteners. RAPTOR® fasteners are fine for nearly all cutting, sawing, planing and sanding operations. The only time that there could be a problem is when the customer uses a high speed steel moulder knife. In this case, the RAPTOR® product that should be used is the LF or NF grades (not available in all products sizes offered). The LF means low fill and has given no problems for all delicate knives. The NF means no fill and cuts like butter so it definitely will not damage any blades. Both the LF and the NF have reduced drivability into harder substrates compared to the standard material. We recommend using the LF and NF only with pneumatic tools, although we do have some customers using manual tools with the LF and NF products. The standard RAPTOR® product is fine for use with carbide moulder knives.
- Metal fasteners rust or corrode causing wood degradation, fastener failure or composite delamination as well as aesthetic problems. High end customers will pay the extra money just for aesthetics, but in some composite applications, metal fasteners are used during construction and then later removed to eliminate the potential for corrosion and failure. In this case, using RAPTOR® fasteners is less costly than the labor time to remove the metal fasteners. RAPTOR® fasteners can be left in the structure and do not need to be removed.
- Metal fasteners trip metal detectors and shut down mill lines. Even a small metal staple used for tagging will be detected by a metal detector, mandating special handling of the entire log to determine if there is additional metal in the log. RAPTOR® staples can be used in the field for tagging and they are invisible to the metal detector.
- Metal fasteners are not allowed in Jewish Orthodox caskets. RAPTOR® fasteners have been reviewed by a group of prominent Rabbis and found to conform to the highest level of Jewish law and can therefore be used for this application.
- Additional applications where metal is not allowed are such things as microwave drying, radar invisibility, medical testing rooms, etc. RAPTOR® fasteners are ideal for these applications since they are completely non-metal.
Additional features:
- Lighter weight (shipping advantage)
- Colorable (standard colors are usually available but custom colors are made to order)
- No sparking hazard (important in industrial wood plants where airborne dust could be high)
- Low thermal conductivity (energy efficiency/green building)
